As a child, I loved the Elf on the Shelf tradition. Every Christmas Eve, my parents would hide the elf in a different spot in our house, and I would wake up early the next morning to find him in a new location. It was so much fun to try to figure out where he would be hiding each year, and it always made Christmas morning even more exciting.
But as I got older, I started to think about the Elf on the Shelf in a different way. I began to wonder what it was like for the elf. What did he think about being taken out of his home every year and brought to a different house? Did he miss his family and friends? Was he scared of the dark?
I decided to write a story about an elf on the shelf who was having these same thoughts. I wanted to explore what it was like for an elf to be away from home for Christmas, and to see how he coped with the challenges of being in a new place every year.
The story I wrote is called “Elf on the Shelf: A Boy’s Perspective.” It’s a story about a young elf named Buddy who is sent to a new home for Christmas. Buddy is scared and lonely at first, but he soon learns to love his new family and friends. He also learns that even though he’s away from home, he’s never really alone.

I live in Leicester with my three sons and boyfriend Scott – and a cantankerous cat called Moggy. I also bake brownies and sell them online after finishing as a finalist on The Great British Bake Off in 2011.
