Why Running on Empty by Jonice Webb is Necessary

I first read Running on Empty by Jonice Webb when I was in the midst of a divorce. I was struggling to understand why my marriage had failed, and I was feeling lost and alone. Webb’s book helped me to understand the role that my parents’ narcissism had played in my own relationship patterns. It also gave me the tools I needed to start healing from the damage that had been done.

Webb argues that children of narcissistic parents are often “trained” to be codependent. We learn to put the needs of others before our own, and we become hyper-sensitive to the moods of those around us. We are also more likely to develop anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems.

Running on Empty helped me to see that I was not alone in my experience. It also gave me hope for the future. Webb’s book showed me that it was possible to break the cycle of codependency and to create a healthy, loving relationship with myself and others.

If you are a child of a narcissistic parent, I highly recommend reading Running on Empty. It is a powerful book that can help you to understand your own experiences and to start healing from the damage that has been done.

Here are a few reasons why I believe Running on Empty is necessary:

  • It provides a comprehensive overview of the effects of narcissistic parenting on children.
  • It offers practical tools for healing from the damage of narcissistic parenting.
  • It provides hope for a better future.

If you are struggling with the effects of narcissistic parenting, I encourage you to read Running on Empty. It may be the most important book you ever read.

Webb does a great job of explaining the concept of emotional neglect in a clear and concise way. She also provides a lot of helpful examples from her own clinical experience.

Secondly, I found the book to be very validating. I read it when I was in my early twenties, and it was the first time that I had ever read anything that accurately described my own childhood experiences. What I Didn’t Like About the Book

There were a few things about ‘Running On Empty Jonice Webb’ that I didn’t like. First of all, I found the book to be a bit repetitive at times. Webb repeats herself a lot, and I found myself skimming through some of the chapters.

Secondly, I found the book to be a bit too focused on the negative aspects of emotional neglect. Webb doesn’t really talk about the positive aspects of having been emotionally neglected, and I think that this is a missed opportunity.

Finally, I found the book to be a bit too clinical at times. Webb uses a lot of jargon, and I found it hard to relate to some of the examples she gave.

Overall, I Would Recommend ‘Running On Empty Jonice Webb’ to Anyone Who Is Looking for a Book That Will Help Them Understand Emotional Neglect. However, I would caution readers that the book can be a bit repetitive and negative at times.
