How I Increased My Language Awareness by Reading Paul Eschholz’s Teaching Language Awareness

Have you ever wondered why you make the grammatical choices you do? Why do you say “I saw John” instead of “I sawed John”? Why do you use “who” instead of “whom”? If you’re like most people, you probably don’t give much thought to these questions. But as Paul Eschholz argues in his book “Language Awareness,” our language choices are not arbitrary. They are shaped by our conscious and unconscious knowledge of the rules of grammar.

In this article, I will explore Eschholz’s theory of language awareness and its implications for our understanding of language and communication. I will also discuss some of the practical applications of Eschholz’s work, such as how it can help us to teach language more effectively and how it can help us to become more aware of our own linguistic biases.

By the end of this article, you will have a better understanding of how language works and how our awareness of language can shape our communication.
