Why Half Lies by Sally Green is Necessary

I’ve read a lot of YA novels in my time, but Half Lies by Sally Green is one of the most unique and important books I’ve ever read. It’s a story about a group of teenagers who are forced to lie to their parents about their sexuality in order to survive. The novel tackles some tough issues, but it does so with sensitivity and compassion. It’s a story that needs to be told, and I’m so glad that Sally Green wrote it.

Here are a few reasons why I think Half Lies is necessary:

  • It provides a voice for LGBTQ+ teens who are struggling with the pressures of coming out. The novel follows a group of teenagers who are all at different stages in their coming-out journeys. They’re all dealing with the same challenges, but they’re all unique individuals. Half Lies gives these teenagers a voice and shows that their stories are important.
  • It raises awareness of the dangers of conversion therapy. Conversion therapy is a dangerous and harmful practice that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Half Lies exposes the truth about conversion therapy and shows the devastating consequences it can have on its victims.
  • It shows that love is love, no matter who you love. Half Lies is a love story, plain and simple. It’s a story about two teenagers who fall in love, despite the obstacles in their way. It’s a reminder that love is love, no matter who you love.
