Digestive Enzymes: What Are They and Why Do You Need Them?

Have you ever felt bloated, gassy, or in pain after eating a big meal? If so, you may be experiencing digestive problems. One possible cause of digestive issues is a lack of digestive enzymes.

Digestive enzymes are proteins that help break down food into smaller molecules that can be absorbed by the body. There are many different types of digestive enzymes, each of which specializes in breaking down a particular type of food.

Some of the most important digestive enzymes include amylase, which breaks down carbohydrates; lipase, which breaks down fats; and protease, which breaks down proteins.

When you don’t have enough digestive enzymes, your body can’t break down food properly, which can lead to a variety of symptoms, including gas, bloating, pain, and diarrhea.

Taking digestive enzyme supplements can help to improve digestion and relieve digestive symptoms. In this article, I’ll discuss what digestive enzymes are, why you need them, and how to take them safely.

Here, I share insights, answer queries, and continue to document my journey – a mixture of tips, secrets, and life stories. This blog has become a space for connection, learning, and sharing.

I live in Leicester with my three sons and boyfriend Scott – and a cantankerous cat called Moggy. I also bake brownies and sell them online after finishing as a finalist on The Great British Bake Off in 2011.
