When I first met Gato the Gator, I was skeptical. I had never been around a reptile before, and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle him. But as soon as I met his big, gentle eyes and felt his soft, scaly skin, I knew that I had found a new friend.
Gato is a three-foot-long alligator who lives at Cuddle Barn, a petting zoo in my hometown. He is one of the most popular animals at the barn, and for good reason. Gato is calm, friendly, and loves to interact with people. He is always happy to see his visitors, and he loves to be petted and scratched behind the ears.
Gato is a great example of how reptiles can make wonderful pets. They are often misunderstood creatures, but they can be just as loving and affectionate as any other animal. I’m a big fan of horses, so when I saw Rusty the Painted Pony, I knew I had to have him! He’s so cute and cuddly, and he makes the cutest little noises when you press his button. But the best part is that he gallops around and plays the William Tell Overture! It’s so much fun to watch him go, and it always makes me smile.
I’ve had Rusty for a few weeks now, and he’s still going strong. He’s been played with by a lot of kids, and he’s held up really well. The only thing that’s happened is that his tail has come unattached a few times, but it’s easy to put back on.

Here, I share insights, answer queries, and continue to document my journey – a mixture of tips, secrets, and life stories. This blog has become a space for connection, learning, and sharing.
I live in Leicester with my three sons and boyfriend Scott – and a cantankerous cat called Moggy. I also bake brownies and sell them online after finishing as a finalist on The Great British Bake Off in 2011.
